Michael Wolf's Tokyo Compression

Michael Wolf is a German/American photographer whose oeuvre explores the unique cultural identity of China and Hong Kong which has been his home since 1995. Along with Wolf's photographic record of the Hong Kong skyline and the environs below, he also photographs the citizens of the city and their living spaces.

In a new exhibition titled, "Tokyo Compression," Wolf captures the morning commute of Tokyo's citizens where they pack themselves into subway cars in overly cramped conditions. If I were to label the series of photographs with a single adage, I'd choose, "Suffer in Silence." Link to photo album.
