Xenoblade Chronicles is Europe-only

Xenoblade was released in Japan last summer and NCS described the game thusly:

Two monolithic gods once went to war and a great battle ensued which shook the planet and roiled the heavens. Swords were swung by both sides and massive damage was done whereby both gods died from their wounds. That was a while ago but the dead hulks of both gods still stand on the battlefield facing each other. The eerie goliaths now serve as the "continents" for two races - humans live on one god which was once a living being while sentient machines reside on the other god which was a mechanical monstrosity. As the story in Xenoblade begins, the humans and machines are at odds and a new conflict is in progress.

The game was a Japanese exclusive for about a year but it's making a trip to Europe where Nintendo plans on releasing the game on September 2, 2011. The European localization will be packaged with a crimson Classic Controller Pro. How about North America? Will the Americans get a localization of the game? That's a big "NO" for now as Nintendo stated on their Facebook page:

Nintendo: Thank you for your enthusiasm. We promised an update, so here it is. We never say “never,” but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas at this time. Thanks so much for your passion, and for being such great fans!

The other two games that Ninty has no plans on bringing to North America are The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower. Gamers may try importing Xenoblade Chronicles but if your Wii's firmware has been updated recently, the Freeloader (A region-circumvention boot disc from Datel) won't work anymore. One solution is firmware hacking which allows the use of import games from Japan and Europe on the Wii. In the case of Xenoblade Chronicles which will is a PAL-format game, please be advised that not all PAL Wii games can be forced to play on NTSC Wii consoles despite the firmware hacks that are available in the wild.

Nintendo targeting 45 million in total Wii sales before next console

In an interview with Kotaku, Reggie Fils-Aime stated that Nintendo is looking to sell at least another 15 million in the United States before considering the development of their next console. Nintendo has sold 30.4 million consoles in the U.S. market thus far. Despite the competition from Microsoft's Kinect and Sony's Move, Reggie didn't see a pressing need to address the Kinect or the Move now.

"After we've reached an installed base of 45 million here in the U.S., we can have a conversation about the next generation," said Fils-Aime. He also went on to say that a succesor to the Wii would not be forthcoming for the 2011 holiday season. The Wii was released on November 19, 2006 so it took the company four years to sell 30.4 million consoles. Sales are slower nowadays but they'll probably move the next 15 million consoles within 3 years time. If that's the case, then the successor to the Wii won't be heading to retail until 2015.

Babysitting Mama headed to Wii

I don't have a Baby Mama yet because I'm not ready to be a pappy and I have a lot more lovin' to do. However, Wii owners will get to become Babysitting Mamas in December when the game is released in Japan. A baby plush is included with the game which gamers are supposed to insert the Wii Remote into - yes it sounds weird but it's part of the simulation portion of game.

In Babysitting Mama, the baby plush is cradled and "fed" like a real baby. The publisher touts a total of 40 different activities that may be played to demonstrate baby interaction and nurturing. I'm not sure how well this thing is going to sell but it looks sorta dumb. Soon-to-be-mothers are one target demographic but I doubt teens girls are going to be into a game where the objective is taking care of a baby. Male gamers will avoid it like the plague. Who's left? Grandma gamers?

Wii Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary bound for Europe

Nintendo announced the Japanese version of the Super Mario Collection 25th Anniversary last month and today, they've confirmed that the Europeans are also getting the game. That probably means an announcement of a North American release is imminent. The collection includes Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3, and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. A bonus booklet and soundtrack are included to reward buyers.

There was news last night from Japanese vendors who stated that a shortage of the Japanese version is highly likely so the European news is welcome. The announcement of a USA version of the game would be a bigger welcome.

Nintendo 3DS

After months of speculation on the Nintendo 3DS, a torrent of news was released overnight which sets the release date of Ninty's new DS for February 2011 in Japan. The rest of the world will get the 3DS in March. Pricing was set at JPY25000 which is about $298 based on this morning's exchange rate.

Destructoid was kind enough to gather together all of last night's news from Nintendo on one convenient page. I'm psyched about the new Zelda Skyward Sword on the Wii but the announcement of a new installment of Rhythm Heaven which is going to appear on the Wii is great news. Can you say, "Wii Remote rhythm action?" I knew you could. Good dog.
