Stateside retailers who have already started accepting preorders for the Playstation Vita are going to have to wait a little longer to fill those reservations. Sony has delayed the release of the Vita in North America and Europe to 2012 and only Japan will be getting the Vita in time for the holiday season.
In a press conference held in Tokyo, SCEI Chairman Kaz Hirai confirmed that the Playstation Vita would not be released in America or Europe this year which reversed previous statements from Sony that the Vita would enjoy a simultaneous global release at the end of 2011. The Japanese version of the Playstation Vita will be available in a Wi-Fi version priced at JPY24,980 and a 3G-compatible version at JPY29,980.
The PlayStation Vita will cost $249 in the U.S., and 24,980 yen in Japan for its Wi-Fi-only version, and $299 in the U.S., and 29,980 yen in Japan for the version that will also have a cell phone service.
